BWARM invites you to our "Back to Basics: United Methodist 101" series. Our programs for fall 2017 to spring 2018 will focus on foundations for LGBTQ inclusion and stimulate our thinking as we follow the work of the Commission on a Way Forward, and look toward the special session of General Conference in February 2019.

Program: In our "Back to Basics: United Methodist 101" series, today we'll look at Scripture and the work for LGBTQ inclusion. Rev. Cindy Burkert will lead us in looking at how as United Methodists we understand Scripture. We'll look at not only the 6 or 7 verses most often cited against LGBTQ persons, but ALSO a framework for understanding Scripture and recall of other Scriptures that define our call as Christians and as UMs.
Location: Calvary UMC in Frederick. 131 West Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701. There is a small parking lot behind the church, enter via N. Bentz Street (a one way Street which heads south). There is additional parking on most of the streets nearby. More accessible entrances are located off the parking lot into the kitchen or the arcade entrance off N. Bentz St.

Program: How does tradition of the church universal and United Methodist Church in particular inform questions like: What does it mean to seek unity as a denomination? We'll look at how the UMC developed as a denomination and our tradition in how we make big decisions.
Location: Colesville UMC in Silver Spring. 52 Randolph Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904. There is wheel chair accessibility from the parking lot at the back of the church. Enter under a glass enclosed ramp into Anderson Hall, where the meeting will take place.
